In the first days, Alison guides beginners through the necessary technical basics of both camera control and composition. Afterwards, you can look forward to shorter workshops on working with light, long exposures, taking night pictures, capturing wild animals and post-processing. Jan will focus mainly on individual consultations and one-to-one sessions and Alison will offer portfolio reviews.
The main language of communication will be English.
Detailed Agenda
September 19 - Arrive in Calgary, Alberta, Canada
DAY 1 (September 20) Calgary
We will be shooting reportage, cityscapes, and architecture in Calgary, Alberta. You can also look forward to early evening and night photography.
DAY 2 (September 21) Master your technique
We dedicate the whole day to the technical aspects of photography. In practical workshops, we will focus on camera control, correct exposure, working with depth of field, light and, last but not least, the right choice of lens according to the type of scene and conditions. We will take photos in the Olympic Park, the city center and the Peace Bridge.
DAY 3 (September 22) Banff National Park
We will go west to the mountains (Canadian Rockies), where we will start with Banff National Park . We are waiting for beautiful mountain massifs reflected in the surface of the lakes, wild nature and a decent chance to meet wild animals. In the evening, if the weather permits, we will focus on photographing the night sky and the Milky Way.
DAY 4 (September 23) Banff National Park
In the morning we will rest after a night of photography and in the afternoon and early evening we will focus mainly on composition in landscape photography. We will be shooting around Lake Minewanka with the Cascade mountains in the background. With a bit of luck, we can also photograph wild animals.
DAY 5 (September 24) Yoho National Park
Early in the morning we set out to photograph Lake Louise in the morning light. The sunrise gradually illuminating the mountain massif reflected on the surface of the lake is unforgettable. We will continue to the Yoho National Park , which will offer us the beautiful scenery of Lake Emerald with the possibility of taking photos from boats, a massive waterfall and the possibility of tracking in a beautiful mountain landscape. We will spend the whole day in the forests of the western foot of the mountains.
DAY 6 (September 25) Glaciers along the Icefield Parkway
We will go along the world-famous Icefield parkway , a road crossing the Jasper National Park . As the name suggests, we can especially look forward to breathtaking glaciers, including the possibility of climbing one of them, glacial lakes, mountain peaks and winding valleys.
DAY 7 (September 26) Jasper National Park
We will spend the morning photographing the beautiful Athabasca Falls and in the evening we will go to the foot of the majestic Mt. Robson, where we will have another option for wonderful night photography.
DAY 8 (September 27) Blue River
All day we will travel along the Blue River along the scenic HW 5 to Kamloops . With a bit of luck, our goal will be to photograph bears in addition to landscape photography.
DAY 9 (September 28) Highway 5, the town of Hope and evening Vancouver
On the way to the west, we will visit the small town of Hope , which became famous not only for its beautiful nature, but also for the filming of the first part of the Rambo movie. In the afternoon we will drive to Vancouver, where in the evening we will visit Stanley Park . We will stay in the park until late in the evening to take night pictures of the city reflected in the bay.
DAY 10 (September 29) Vancouver
We are waiting for the final full-day workshop of street photography and architecture photography. We will visit downtown, the Olympic town and beautiful gardens.
